Description:
Porcellio echinatus is a lesser-known European isopod species with a naturally rugged, armored appearance. It typically shows earthy tones such as brown, grey, or muted yellowish shades, blending well into dry leaf litter and soil environments.
This species grows to a medium size and is moderately hardy once established. It prefers a well-ventilated enclosure with a clear dry-to-moist gradient rather than consistently wet conditions. Stability and airflow are more important than high humidity.
Once established, it becomes a steady breeder, though it remains relatively unpopular in the hobby compared to more colorful Porcellio species, making it a niche but reliable mid-tier choice for collectors and bioactive setups.
