Description:
Armadillidium officinalis is a classic European isopod species known for its smooth, rounded “pill bug” shape and calm behavior. It is often described as looking like a traditional Chinese herbal pill due to its compact, uniform, and tightly rolled body form when disturbed.
This species is hardy and beginner-friendly, growing to a small to medium size. It prefers a well-ventilated enclosure with a clear dry-to-moist gradient and generally does better with slightly drier conditions on one side of the setup.
Once established, it becomes a steady breeder and a reliable mid–low tier species, commonly used in bioactive setups and appreciated for its classic, simple isopod appearance.
